The Republic of Iroquois Ongwehonweh (R.I.O.) is a sovereign tribal government committed to the restoration, preservation, and empowerment of the Ongwehonweh people. The term Ongwehonweh, meaning "Original Beings", reflects our identity as the first peoples of this land and emphasizes our sacred connection to Mother Earth, which has existed since time immemorial.
Founded on the principles of unity, self-determination, and resilience, the R.I.O. stands as a beacon for Indigenous sovereignty and cultural revitalization. Guided by the wisdom of our ancestors and the enduring principles of the Great Law of Peace, we strive to protect our inherent rights, preserve our languages, and nurture our cultural traditions.
Our mission extends to ensuring the prosperity and well-being of the next seven generations of Ongwehonweh, wherever they reside across the Americas. We work to reclaim our rightful place as stewards of the land, defenders of natural resources, and keepers of the original teachings that honor the balance between huemanity and nature.
The R.I.O. is more than a government—it is a journey to empower our people, restore our birthright, and honor our legacy as the Original Beings. Together, we forge a path toward sovereignty, resilience, and renewal for all Ongwehonweh now and for time immemorial.
